Process Signature Verification Technology

Catch defects others miss and continuously improve the manufacturing process to maximize yield

Sciemetric has perfected the industrial application of electronic signature analysis technology, a powerful tool for understanding manufacturing process behavior and detecting defects that were previously thought to be undetectable while also helping pinpoint root causes of manufacturing defects. The company's products include proprietary software, using mathematical algorithms in combination with statistics to detect, manage and avoid defects in real time on machining and assembly lines.

Overview - Process Signature Verification

Most manufacturing processes can be understood through critical process variables. Collected and digitized throughout the manufacturing cycle these critical parameters to yield ecgtxta Process Signature. This signature uniquely defines the behavior of the materials and the tooling for that manufacturing.

An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a very close analogy as it is a process signature. The process is the beat of a heart and the output is blood flow throughout the body.

  • The ECG does not measure the blood flow directly, but measures a critical parameter, the electrical response of the heart, to determine whether the output is correct.
  • Every one of our ECG signatures will look very similar, perhaps identical, to the untrained eye. But the heart specialist EXTRACTS certain key FEATURES from this complex signature which will tell him/her the condition of the heart and in the case of a faulty heart, what precisely is wrong with it.

Process Signature Verification does the same thing with a manufacturing process or product test. It measures and evaluates the response of critical process parameters to determine whether that process is in conformance with quality benchmarks and the part is good.

Signature Analysis

Signature analysis is the comparison of a detailed and specific process variable response against color signaturepre-determined responses. This analysis of responses indicates process compliance with specifications or the presence of monitored failure modes.

This detailed insight into the manufacturing process makes it much easier to detect part or process problems and to identify tool wear or other equipment malfunctions that lead to manufacturing defects.

Subsequent visual and mathematical analysis allow process and quality engineers to isolate the root causes of inconsistencies, secure in the knowledge that, if the process is working correctly, the part will be defect-free.

Signature Analysis Systems - Measure & Analyze Any Process Variable

True signature analysis systems allow detailed insight into a test or a manufacturing process. To measure success or failure of a process, signature verification software systematically analyzes identifiable process characteristics, both in real-time on the line and during off-line analysis.

The characteristics analyzed are those deemed to be the most appropriate by process engineering staff, but are limited only by the availability of appropriate sensing equipment.

Sciemetric has perfected the application of electronic signature analysis technology for use in the manufacturing environment

  • Every one of our products was designed to capture complete waveforms and provide science-level manufacturing analysis in real time.
  • The ability to measure against multiple points results in a clearer view of all aspects of the process.

Sciemetric's Process Signature Verification (PSV) technology provides great value for manufacturers:

  • Root cause analysis: Detailed understanding of process behavior can be applied to identify the root cause of quality issues and improve productivity
  • Detect even the smallest manufacturing defects: Science level analytical tools make it possible to find subtle defects that other manufacturing quality control procedures regularly miss. Part and process issues are addressed before the part moves further into production.
  • Measurement of process repeatability and compliance facilitates quality compliance reporting and provides confidence in the manufacturing process
  • Rapid build-out of new stations & quality specifications: The availability of a data-derived specification for a well-behaved process allows rapid build-out of new stations and lines and rapid convergence on quality specifications for new installations.

Our signature analysis whitepapers outline how Sciemetric uses Process Signature Analysis and Verification to improve quality process management for manufacturers.

Factory of the Future: Applying this technology to avoid defects

Imagine if manufacturing companies could avoid defects and anticipate problems before they occur. That's Six Sigma manufacturing and then some.

Sciemetric's vision is the application of signature analysis throughout the entire manufacturing process - not just to identify bad parts - to find patterns and spot trends in manufacturing signatures across the enterprise.

Connecting the dots between the multiple elements that truly form the manufacturing environment will empower manufacturers of the future to be proactive.

  • Routine and automatic machine-to-machine comparisons (signatures) can help identify tooling and machinery problems
  • Linking symptoms to outcomes to defects on entire production lines
  • Plant-to-plant comparisons from subassembly to finished product
  • Intelligent, enterprise-wide software engine to automatically correlate vital information across the enterprise and process to increase productivity through yield and quality.

And it all starts with the capture, storage and analysis of process signatures. We look forward to helping your organization become a factory of the future, today.
