Overview - Process Signature Verification
Most manufacturing processes can be understood through critical process variables. Collected and digitized throughout the manufacturing cycle these critical parameter yield a Process Signature. This signature uniquely defines the behavior of the materials and the tooling for that manufacturing.
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a very close analogy as it is a process signature. The process is the beat of a heart and the output is blood flow throughout the body.

| Every one of our ECG signatures will look very similar, perhaps identical, to the untrained eye. But the heart specialist EXTRACTS certain key FEATURES from this complex signature which will tell him/her the condition of the heart and in the case of a faulty heart, what precisely is wrong with it. |
Process Signature Verification does the same thing with a manufacturing process or product test. It measures and evaluates the response of critical process parameters to determine whether that process is in conformance with quality benchmarks and the part is good.
The process signature to the left is from a press-fit operation. Key features (up to 30 for an interference press operation) are extracted which will accurately describe a conforming and non-conforming process or part.
Signature Analysis
Signature analysis is the comparison of a detailed and specific process variable response against pre-determined responses. This analysis of responses indicates process compliance with specifications or they can indicate the presence of monitored failure modes.
This detailed insight into the manufacturing process makes it much easier to detect part or process problems and to identify tool wear or other equipment malfunction that lead to manufacturing defects.
Subsequent visual and mathematical analysis allow process and quality engineers to isolate the root causes of inconsistencies, secure in the knowledge that, if the process is working correctly, the part will be defect-free.

True signature analysis systems allow detailed insight into a test or a manufacturing process. To measure success or failure of a process, signature verification software systematically analyzes identifiable process characteristics, both in real-time on the line and during off-line analysis.
The characteristics analyzed are those deemed to be the most appropriate by process engineering staff, but are limited only by the availability of appropriate sensing equipment.
