Sciemetric is seeking a Senior Electronics Systems Engineer to drive the end-to-end development of industrial electronics products and automated data acquisition architectures designed for a 10-year service life. Operating within a mixed discipline team of 2–5 engineers and developers, you will take high-level product concepts and transform them into reliable factory-ready hardware suitable for international markets. This full-time, in-person role is based out of our Ottawa facility.

As a Level IV engineer, you will own the product lifecycle from initial circuit design and prototyping to coordinating with manufacturing partners. Additionally, you will provide technical guidance and support to our integration and installation teams, while playing a key role in sustaining and evolving our existing product line deployed worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Concept to Specification: Translate conceptual requirements into engineering specifications, defining both hardware and interface architectures.
  • Hands-On Electronics Design: Lead the electronics development cycle, executing component selection, schematic capture, multi-layer PCB layout, and prototyping.
  • Industrial Systems Integration: Architect and execute the integration of industrial automation systems, combining real-time control and data acquisition modules to build deterministic measurement systems.  System Integration & Collaboration: Direct and collaborate with colleagues or external contractors on firmware development, embedded software, mechanical design, thermal management, EMC compliance, and documentation.
  • Vendor & Factory Coordination: Select, vet, and technically manage external suppliers and contract manufacturers from initial prototype runs through to volume production.
  • Testing & Reliability: Design and build testing protocols, validation jigs, and automated production test fixtures to ensure long-term product quality.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Own the global regulatory certification process (e.g., CE, UL, IEC), ensuring designs pass compliance and EMC/EMI testing.
  • Sustaining Engineering: Provide senior technical leadership for existing hardware deployed globally, supporting the applications and installations teams, mitigating obsolescence through planned product updates, and driving root-cause analysis to troubleshoot field and manufacturing failures.

Qualifications:

  • Education: B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field. A P.Eng. designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) (or immediate eligibility) is desirable.
  • Experience: 8+ years of end-to-end experience in electronics product design, with a documented track record of taking hardware products from concept through to global market release.
  • Expertise in High-Reliability Design: Advanced understanding of signal integrity, component de-rating, power distribution, thermal management for open and sealed products, ingress protection, and EMC.
  • Tools: Advanced proficiency with electronics design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium Designer, SPICE, MatLAB, Ansys).
  • Lab & Troubleshooting: Advanced proficiency using lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers) to validate and debug electronics.
  • Automation & DAQ Expertise: Deep understanding of front-end interfaces for input and output protection, driving capacitive and inductive loads, high-speed serial communication, isolation, and low voltage analog signals, and how these apply in an industrial control panel.
  • Location: Must be located in or willing to commute daily to our Ottawa region location.

Salary Range

  •  $120,000 to $155,000
