Application Note: Leak Testing for Compressible Limb Sleeves
Recycled pressure cuffs must be tested prior to reuse to ensure they meet the standards. The medical company needed not only to improve the accuracy, repeatability and reliability of the test that was being done manually, but also had to collect test data records for each part. Sciemetric developed a solution that automated the test, provided clear visibility into the process and complete part traceability. Read the Application Note to learn more.

Application Note | Power Steering Pump Tube Press: Verification Of Tube Press Into Power Steering Pump
An automotive parts manufacturer was unable to verify that the tube insertion process was free of defects to avoid potential power steering failures in the field. A sigPOD press monitor was configured to monitor press load versus distance and successfully detects defects in-process such as too large insertion hole, loose tube and debris. Application Note | Power Steering Pump Assembly: Force Versus Distance Process Monitoring
A faulty pulley being incorrectly pressed onto the pump shaft resulted in faulty power steering pumps. The manufacturer required a cost-effective solution to verify that the pulley was securely pressed into the pump shaft prior to final assembly. In one case, Sciemetric’s press monitoring system was installed to find the defects before final assembly by performing various tests with each part including press force, and pulley height checks during assembly, providing detailed signatures of the press, position while storing all data for complete traceability. Application Note | Piston Connecting Rod Fracture: Force Monitoring in V8 and V10 Assembly
An engine manufacturer required a solution to successfully monitor the crank force to verify the correct range of key parameters to ensure the quality of the connection of the connecting rods joining the pistons to crankshaft was not compromised. Sciemetric’s process monitor resolved the issue by closely monitoring the crank and peak force, bushing, falling slope and area under the curve while simultaneously monitoring both the cranking process and bushing press forces with a single system with a five second machine cycle time. Application Note | Piston Cooling Nozzle Assembly: Test Verification Using Signature Analysis
Sciemetric’s process monitoring system was used to successfully detect piston cooling nozzle defects early in the assembly process. Detects all missing, blocked or obstructed cooling nozzles, measures high and low pressure and provides real-time ‘PASS’ or ‘FAIL’ results to the operator. Installation of the system resulted in the diesel engine manufacturer, decreasing end-of-line repair costs, customer warranty claims and more. Read the Application Note to learn more.

Application Note | Piston Ring Verification System: Laser Gaging Using Signature Analysis
A manufacturer was experiencing problems with the inconsistent quality of their shipped engines, leading to customer complaints and expensive teardowns after engine hot/cold test. The problem was traced to improperly stacked compression rings. Sciemetric resolved the problem by installing our advanced laser gaging technology system to accurately detect even the slightest defects such as upside down, bent, and incorrect positioning of each compression ring. Application Note | Power Steering Pump: Vane Defect Detection Using Signature Analysis
A power steering pump manufacturer required a solution that accurately detected the most subtle vane defects prior to final assembly to avoid costly tear downs due to the objectionable noise and vibration (NVH) they can create. A Sciemetric test and analysis system was installed and configured to observe the pressure waveform, allowing easy detection of missing, nicked, bent and slightly stuck vanes. Application Note: Transfer Line Load Monitoring
The transfer lines are often subjected to substantial loads and forces during the transfer process. Recently, a transfer line that was being used to transfer automobile bodies on a body weld line began experiencing problems with pin shear as a direct result of the force required to move the parts. A Sciemetric test and analysis system was used and provided a quick and easy solution to the problem. The system was configured to monitor and collect for fifteen seconds the compression and tension force data from a load cell configured on a transfer line (the entire process occurred in eleven seconds). Application Note | Axle Suspension Component Assembly: Press Force Verification of Bushing Assemblies
Since the part is welded to the front axle, the assembly of the front axle bushing into a stamped metal bracket is a critical process. The visual and random mechanical inspections conducted post-assembly by a manufacturer were insufficient to identify defective parts and provide 100% guarantee of the integrity of the assembly during the service life of the vehicle. Read the application note to learn how Sciemetric fixed the problem.
